The vows are made in a euphoric moment, but they are designed for end-of-the-world stress. When the torrential rain seems to never end and the ship takes on water, the stubbornness of the vows is the bilge pump that keeps you afloat until calmer seas prevail.
She can be a wreck and I can hold us together. I can suffer a hull breech and she keeps the ship on course.
